With
tremendous sadness Cynthia Fleming notified the Exceller Fund that her
wonderful Forty-Five was euthanized because of injuries suffered when he was
struck by a car after the curious gelding wandered out of his paddock.
Forty-Five served as both a pleasure mount and entertaining companion for Cynthia, who adopted Forty-Five from the Exceller Fund after meeting him at Celtic Rein Equine Rescue.
“He was an absolute joy,” Cynthia said. “He loved to tear around his field with his buddies – or should I say entourage. He was a superb supervisor when fence boards needed mending. He kept such a close eye on what I was doing that I had to watch where I swung the hammer! There was never a day that he didn’t nicker to me as I came and went from the house."
As a son of premiere sire Gone West and with the blood of the legendary Secretariat in his veins, Forty-Five was born for greatness and was purchased by an elite racing stable. He fulfilled part of his destiny by proudly standing in the winner’s circle before being channeled through the Exceller Fund when his racing days ended.
Despite a pedigree geared for speed, the gentle giant was a reliable pleasure mount for Cynthia.
“He was a
patient mount who was fine with my unbalanced seat and for no reason because
strength and speed were written all over his body,” she said. “He was a
beautiful sole inside and out and will be missed dearly.”
